Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation where your subconscious mind is more active than your conscious mind. It is similar to daydreaming or being engrossed in a good book. You are fully in control and not asleep, but you experience a heightened sense of focus and attention. Hypnosis is a technique that induces this trance-like state, which can only occur if you are willing. Hypnotherapy uses trance to help address challenges.

Hypnosis can transform old beliefs and thought patterns by seeding your positive suggestions in your subconscious mind. This can lead to meaningful and lasting changes in your thought process. Hypnosis replaces the old with the new, which can help manage problems and change your beliefs, fears, desires, habits and resistance toward achieving new goals. Through hypnotherapy, you can understand why you feel the way you do and learn to express your feelings effectively. By inducing relaxation, hypnosis can help you come to terms with your emotions and gain a more objective perspective.

As the body relaxes and breathing slows, concentration intensifies. Although still aware of surroundings during hypnosis, a comfortable detachment is felt. This is similar to the relaxing feeling of sitting with closed eyes, daydreaming or deep thought.

Hypnosis has been proven effective with variety of conditions. Most recent, a 2024 review by the National Library of Medicine showed that hypnosis can positively impact mental and somatic treatment outcomes, especially in patients experiencing pain, undergoing medical procedures, and children/adolescents. An earlier study in 2007 by American Health Magazine indicated that hypnotherapy was more effective than psychoanalysis and behavior therapy, with a 93% recovery rate after 6 hypnotherapy sessions.

1. Hypnosis is mind control. Hypnotherapy is not mind control. It only relaxes you to be more open to positive suggestions and imagery to reach your personal goals. Your well-being and comfort comes first.

2. You are asleep during hypnosis. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness. Clients are generally relaxed and alert enough to think, talk and even move about if needed. Everyone experiences hypnosis in their own unique ways.

3. I am not hypnotizable. Everyone has the ability to be hypnotized because it is a natural, normal state that each of us enters daily. If one approach is not successful, it is a matter of finding the way that works best for you.

4. One-time cure? While hypnosis is a relatively quick method of making effective improvements, there is no such thing as a one-time cure. Every individual makes progress at their own rate.

5. You are not hypnotized if you can hear the hypnotist? Each person has a unique experience of hypnosis. You can choose to allow your mind to drift away or to listen carefully to my words.
